Opened in 1992, YS Falls is one of Jamaica’s top nature attractions, giving visitors the chance to enjoy the stunning waterfalls set amid lush gardens and impressive trees.
YS Falls features seven tiers, with water flowing into natural swimming pools, including a designated natural pool.
The expansive lawns are ideal for family picnics or a day outdoors, complemented by natural pools fed by both underground and surface springs, perfect for a refreshing swim.
YS is the shortest place name in Jamaica. The Browne family, current owners, acquired YS in 1887 when their great-granduncle John went to London to buy another property in St. Ann, Jamaica. Upon arrival, that property had already been sold, so he chose to purchase YS without having seen it, and it has remained in the family since.
Originally, YS was a sugarcane farm with an operational sugar factory. The estate also produced logwood for export to Europe, where the heartwood was used to make dye.
However, with the advent of synthetic dyes, demand for logwood declined, and sugar production in Jamaica gradually decreased. By the 1960s, sugarcane cultivation was completely phased out, and the Browne family shifted their focus to breeding Pedigreed Red Poll cattle and Thoroughbred racehorses.
